Mechanical Archangel series

Fabio Weik’s project stages a collision between a machine of death and the fragile persistence of nature. The structure recalls the outline of kamikaze drones deployed in the current war between Russia and Ukraine, devices programmed to erase life from a distance, their attacks circulating endlessly through social media feeds. These images of vertical descents, of targets consumed by a remote eye, constitute a new grammar of war, a vision in which sight itself becomes execution.

Against this backdrop of annihilation, Weik grafts a shell, a fossil residue and marine echo that speaks of origin, breath, and continuity. The encounter is violent, the programmed sacrifice of the drone collides with the organic survival inscribed in the shell. What emerges is a hybrid body, at once memorial and weapon, a precarious assemblage that refuses reconciliation.

This production is not representation but apparatus. It institutes a field of forces where war and nature, annihilation and resistance, technological sacrifice and primordial memory confront one another. In doing so, Weik exposes the paradox of our present, a future in which death is automated yet the desire for life persists in fragments of nature stubbornly carried through the sky.
